About The Position

The Medical Technologist will perform all moderate and high complexity testing under the authorization of the laboratory medical director. Responsibilities include performing testing as assigned with duties spanning the preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing. This includes proper patient identification, specimen collection, handling, performance, and reporting of each test method. The role also involves maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, performance of proficiency testing, understanding reagent stability and storage, and awareness of factors or limitations that influence testing results. The Medical Technologist will assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the performance and evaluation of quality control sample values, and document all quality control and patient testing, maintenance, and corrective action activities. Additionally, the Medical Technologist will instruct new technologists, technicians, and lab assistants, and aid in the teaching program of Medical Technology (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) students. The position also requires assisting with troubleshooting instruments and requisitioning necessary supplies, reagents, and blood components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an approved school of Medical Technology.
  • Registered as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or registry eligible.
  • Training accomplished in an approved school of medical technology is desirable.
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Document all quality control and patient testing activities, including maintenance and corrective actions.
  • Instruct new technologists, technicians, and lab assistants.
  • Aid in the teaching program of MT and MLT students.
  • Assist with troubleshooting instruments and requisitioning necessary supplies.
