The position involves following the policies and procedures of the facility regarding the administration of medications to residents. Responsibilities include noting and reporting errors in medication administration, assisting in developing procedures to identify and prevent medication errors, and performing administrative tasks such as completing necessary forms and reports. The role requires maintaining a productive working relationship with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists, and reporting any resident complaints to the Director of Nursing Services. Participation in facility surveys, Quality Assurance programs, and other committees related to medication processes is also expected. The position entails accurately preparing, administering, and documenting medications, verifying medications brought in by residents, and following procedures for medication destruction and labeling. The employee must ensure proper documentation of medication administration and any errors, and verify resident identity before administering medications. The role also includes measuring and reporting vital signs, allowing residents to self-administer medications, and maintaining confidentiality of resident information.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school education or equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Medication Aide with completion of a state-approved training program.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and technical documents.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Follow facility policies and procedures for administering medications to residents.
  • Note and report errors in medication administration.
  • Assist in developing procedures to identify and prevent medication errors.
  • Complete necessary forms, charts, and reports as required.
  • Maintain a friendly working relationship with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists.
  • Report resident complaints to the Director of Nursing Services.

  • Prepare, administer, and document medications accurately and safely.
  • Verify medications brought in by newly admitted residents.

  • Notify the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing Services of any medication errors or reactions.
  • Verify resident identity before administering medications.
  • Measure, record, and report vital signs.
  • Allow residents to self-administer medications as per facility procedures.
  • Attend continuing education programs to maintain certification.
  • Report unauthorized attempts to access facility information systems.
  • Perform tasks according to established policies and procedures.
