About The Position

Nite Lines USA, established in 1994, provides contract support services to government institutions and medical treatment facilities. As a dynamic and growing healthcare organization, it seeks dedicated professionals who embody integrity, respect, accountability, and collaboration. This contract Registered Nurse (RN) position is located at the VA Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, and involves providing direct and indirect nursing care. The role requires independent judgment, flexibility, organizational skills, and an interdisciplinary approach. RNs will float among various units within the service area, including Medical-Surgical Inpatient (Med-Surg) units such as telemetry, orthopedics, medicine, and general surgery. Specific units include 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg, 5A Med-Surg, 5B Rehab-Neurological, and the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), each with distinct patient populations and treatment protocols. Shifts, tours of duty, and hours may vary, primarily 12-hours, with some 8-hour and 10-hour shifts available, and availability is required for days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a contract position, not an employer-employee relationship.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • A current license from the Ohio Board of Nursing or a current multi-state license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
  • Current certification in CPR by an American Health Association Vendor
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Current ACLS certification (If assigned to Intensive Care Unit/Step Down or Emergency Department)
  • A current CV which identifies the provider's education and professional qualifications commensurate with the position or specialty for which they are being offered to perform
  • A minimum of two (2) years direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care by contributing to the patient's assessment
  • Determine priorities

  • Float among various units within the service area based on operational needs
  • Perform patient assessments
  • Administer medication
  • Perform IV therapy
  • Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team
  • Perform telemetry monitoring
  • Handle admissions and discharges
  • Manage internal and external transfers
  • Delegate to assistive personnel
  • Perform electronic medical record documentation
  • Provide patient transport
  • Execute emergency response procedures
  • Care for patients with various oncology specific conditions (e.g., initial cancer diagnosis, diagnostic workup, bio/chemotherapy treatments, symptom management, telemetry, infections, respiratory complications, neutropenia, sepsis, hematology/coagulation complications, failure to thrive, palliative care consults/needs) on 4A-Oncology
  • Administer Biotherapy/Chemotherapy on 4A-Oncology
  • Administer Blood Products on 4A-Oncology
  • Provide intravenous antibiotic therapy on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Manage post chemotherapy symptom management on 4A-Oncology
  • Provide pain management on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Perform central line care on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Manage Foley catheters on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Perform Heparin drip titrations on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Manage chest tubes, drainage tubes, Pleurx Catheters on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Perform wound care treatments including surgical sites & wound vacs on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Address Palliative/Hospice/End of Life needs on 4A-Oncology, 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg
  • Manage patients with various acute care conditions (e.g., symptom management, infections, respiratory complications, sepsis, coagulation complications, urology complications, failure to thrive, palliative care needs, drug & alcohol withdrawal, dementia, placement needs, homicidal/suicidal ideations, cardiac issues) on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Provide intravenous fluid replacement on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Perform Coagulation bridging on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Manage nephrostomy tubes on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Perform ostomy & wound care on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Address pre & post-surgical needs on 4A Med-Surg, 4B Med-Surg, and 5A Med-Surg
  • Address psychiatric & behavioral concerns with medical needs on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Provide 1:1 Sitter/therapeutic assistants for suicidal/homicidal needs on 4A Med-Surg and 4B Med-Surg
  • Provide specialized care for patients requiring post-operative recovery (thoracic, vascular, general surgery, TALC, GI, Urology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, and ENT) on 5A Med-Surg
  • Provide acute medical management on 5A Med-Surg
  • Provide continuous cardiac monitoring on 5A Med-Surg, 5B Rehab-Neurological, and PCU
  • Provide specialized care for patients requiring rehabilitation, neurological care, medical/surgical management on 5B Rehab-Neurological
  • Support patients recovering from complex conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other neurological disorders on 5B Rehab-Neurological
  • Provide a higher level of monitoring and clinical support than a general medical-surgical unit on PCU
