About The Position

The Med/Surg CNA position at Aurora BayCare Medical Center involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients. Responsibilities include bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation, as well as measuring and documenting vital signs and patient data. The role requires participation in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring patient comfort and safety. The CNA will also perform various tasks related to patient nutrition and skin integrity, collect specimens, and maintain infection prevention protocols. Communication with patients and healthcare teams is essential, along with maintaining accurate medical records and facilitating necessary tests and treatments.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other patient data.
  • Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
  • Ensures patient call light is always in reach and answers call-lights promptly.
  • Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations to RN.
  • Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of the patient under direction of RN.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
  • Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention.
  • Coordinates tests and treatments with various departments.
  • Facilitates communications required to support patient care.
  • Compiles necessary chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges and expirations.
  • Establishes and maintains positive customer relations.
