About The Position

Position Summary : The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care within their scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OBSN) under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The CNA assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensures comfort and safety, and supports nursing staff in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. Responsibilities include monitoring and reporting patient observations, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and responding promptly to patient needs. The CNA works collaboratively with the healthcare team to promote patient well-being, uphold infection control standards, and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Qualifications : • High School Diploma or Equivalent required. • Current Oregon Certified Nursing Assistant license without restriction • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) required

  • Ability to measure and record vital signs, assist with specimens, and support basic nursing procedures as well as accurately observe, recognize, and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Ability to ensures accurate documentation using the electronic medical record (EMR), follow care plans, and adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Ability to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, and handle physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple patient needs, and complete duties efficiently as well as respond appropriately to changing patient conditions, emergencies, or workflow challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively with nurses, CNAs, and other healthcare team members to provide coordinated care.
  • Skilled in making sound decisions and practicing critical thinking, especially when responding to urgent and emergent situations.
  • Skilled in therapeutic communication with patients and families.
  • Knowledge of health equity and ability to provide age-specific, culturally competent care that considers the patient's physical, psychosocial, and socioeconomic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Assist with patient mobility, including safe transfers, repositioning, ambulation, and use of mobility aids, following proper body mechanics and fall prevention protocols.
  • Measure and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and weight, accurately documenting findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition, behavior, or comfort level promptly to the primary or supervising RN, ensuring timely intervention.
  • Support patient nutrition by preparing and delivering meal trays, assisting with feeding as needed, and recording intake/output per hospital policy.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring patient comfort and accurate documentation during transitions of care.
  • Assist nursing staff with procedures as delegated, including specimen collection, catheter care, wound care support, and equipment setup.
  • Document patient care activities and observations accurately and timely in EMR or paper records, adhering to regulatory and accreditation requirements and hospital policy.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment by following infection control practices, changing linens, sanitizing equipment, and adhering to hospital safety standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary communication, including shift handoffs, rounding, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Provide emotional support and patient education by responding to patient needs, promoting comfort, dignity, and cultural sensitivity, and involving families as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education, compliance training, and adherence to regulatory and hospital standards.
