About The Position

Valley View Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to perform diagnostic testing on patient samples, aiding physicians in the diagnosis and monitoring of various disease states. The technician will be responsible for performing common testing procedures, reporting test results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring quality control. This role also involves performing phlebotomy, recognizing abnormal results, and assisting in the training of new lab assistants and technicians. The position requires adherence to data security and patient confidentiality principles, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP, HEW, or equivalent) required within one year of hire.
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment are essential.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in diagnosis and monitoring of diseases.
  • Reports test results accurately and timely.
  • Conducts instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Performs quality control testing to ensure accuracy of results.
  • Maintains supplies and inventory necessary for testing procedures.
  • Calibrates laboratory equipment and assesses its accuracy.
  • Performs phlebotomy using age-specific techniques.
  • Recognizes normal, abnormal, or unexpected results and addresses errors or problems with test results.
  • Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality.
  • Assists outpatients and trains new lab assistants and technicians.
