The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) at Union Hospital plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care by performing laboratory tests, managing specimen collection, and ensuring accurate reporting of results. This position is integral to the lab services provided to the Wabash Valley Communities, emphasizing compassionate service and professional development within an inclusive work environment.

  • Perform and report laboratory tests using automated, semi-automated, and manual test systems.
  • Prepare specimens for in-house testing and for referral to reference laboratories, ensuring proper verification and labeling.
  • Maintain quality control and assurance records according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment, performing maintenance as needed.
  • Collect patient blood specimens and other types, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and managing test orders.
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent military training.
  • ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for testing personnel performing moderately complex testing.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Familiarity with quality control and assurance processes in a laboratory setting.
