About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Capital Health involves preparing patients for examinations, performing preliminary physical tests, and assisting physicians and other staff in delivering quality patient care. The role includes both clinical and clerical duties, ensuring efficient patient service and maintaining medical records. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for performing various tests, managing supplies, and coordinating with front office personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Current certification from a recognized certifying body for medical assistants.
  • AHA BLS certification required before the end of the orientation period.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests such as taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
  • Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens.
  • Assists physicians and other staff as needed during patient encounters.
  • Selects appropriate equipment prior to collection to streamline the process.
  • Verifies specimen orders per department policy.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing.
  • Performs clerical duties including patient registration, answering phones, and scheduling appointments.
  • Documents medical information in electronic medical records including medication and refill information.
  • Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional manner.
  • Performs checkout/in duties including claim creation and discharge paperwork.
  • Cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed.
