About The Position

The Mechatronics Co-op will work as a member of our robotics and automation team, applying electrical, controls, and systems knowledge to develop and support complex automated systems. This role will collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure reliable system performance. Responsibilities will focus on PLC development, system integration, debugging, and supporting systems deployed in both lab and customer environments. This role will be onsite at the Bedford, MA office. This position will run from approximately July to December 2026 (dates flexible).

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience or coursework with PLC programming
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical systems, including reading schematics and troubleshooting circuits
  • Familiarity with industrial sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in both hardware and software contexts
  • Interest in industrial automation, robotics, and system integration
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with basic programming (Python, C/C++, or structured text) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support PLC development and troubleshooting for automated systems, including debugging ladder logic, structured text, and I/O issues.
  • Assist in commissioning and validation of automation systems, including sensors, conveyors, and robotic subsystems.
  • Develop and improve diagnostic tools for identifying electrical and control system faults.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability, uptime, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues, including wiring faults, sensor failures, and communication errors.
  • Assist in integration and testing of hardware components such as PLCs, drives, and safety systems.
  • Modify and test PLC programs to support new features and system updates.
  • Build test setups to validate control logic and hardware functionality.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for system failures and help implement corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics to support debugging and system bring-up.
  • Assist with panel wiring, labeling, and verification.
  • Document system behavior, issues, and solutions to improve team knowledge and processes.
