About The Position

This is an in-person position based initially at our steel frame testing facility in San Leandro, California, then likely transitioning to our headquarters in Fremont, California. NEXTracker seeks a creative and experienced Test Engineer for a position on the mechanical structures team. This engineer will be responsible for designing test plans and methodologies for evaluating steel module frame components to support NEXTracker’s goal of leading industry-wide adoption of steel frame technology.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with IEC and UL testing standards
  • Strong track record planning and executing testing campaigns
  • Proficiency in using laboratory instruments, sensors, and data acquisition systems
  • Strong data analysis skills in excel
  • Knowledge/experience with drawings, model and tolerance standards and application
  • Strong aptitude and intuition in mechanical failure analysis
  • Practical knowledge of prototyping manufacturing process
  • Must possess excellent writing and record keeping skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Solar, preferably in module or racking design
  • Previous experience working for or closely with testing labs, preferably for solar
  • Experience with LabVIEW Programming
  • Fluency in a data analysis application
  • Hands-on background in test design, prototyping, and pilot runs
  • Confluence, Arena, Miro (Real Time board), Jira
  • Fluent mandarin speaker

Responsibilities

  • Develop and track testing programs related to steel frame technology
  • Author detailed test plans and testing reports
  • Work with external testing labs to perform tests according to test plans
  • Research and design testing equipment and test rigs
  • Evaluate and recommend consultants, equipment, and tests
  • Perform minor fabrication work for use in exploratory testing
  • Oversee NEXTracker test technicians performing experiments
  • Provide input to product design engineers on frame design requirements
  • Travel to consultant testing facilities and manufacturing facilities
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with the product design engineering team to identify concepts and designs for future improvements
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of issues discovered during all phases of testing as well as Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA)
