About The Position

Celestica is hiring a Mechanical Test and Failure Lab Project Engineer with experience in creative problem solving and mechanical and thermal testing of electronic printed circuit assemblies and products.  The goal of this role is to continuously improve the quality and reliability of electronic devices through thermal & mechanical testing.  The role is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, executing and optimizing mechanical and thermal test plans to assess product quality and reliability.  We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive and timely technical services and project / customer management to both internal and external customers. As part of this role, you’ll utilize advanced fixture design capabilities to investigate and resolve issues related to printed circuit board assembly mechanical and thermal robustness.

Requirements

  • Experienced in operating, calibrating, maintaining, installing, troubleshooting and interpreting data from mechanical/thermal laboratory equipment including:  vibration tables, drop shock tables, strain gage systems, thermal cycling and thermal shock chambers
  • Experienced in complicated mechanical test processes and developing unique test plans based on limited data
  • Demonstrates confidence in describing root cause and corrective actions for mechanical test failures to internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Experienced in evaluating and selecting new mechanical and thermal test lab equipment and more importantly in analyzing and interpreting customer and industry standards, specifications and drawings for mechanical stress testing
  • Knowledge of vibration theory and its application to testing of electronic assemblies
  • Excellent English Communication Skills: High levels of organizational, team, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal) required
  • A high level of emotional intelligence required: Consistently demonstrating the open mindedness of a problem solver who can collaboratively engage with multiple experts, in multiple departments, and work in difficult and stressful situations in a positive and influential manner
  • Experience working in a fast-passed environment, multi-project environment required
  • This position is 100% onsite at the Celestica Fort Worth Manufacturing Plant –this is not a remote nor hybrid position
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and MS-Office is required

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be the Team Lead for the Mechanical Stress and Thermal Cycling Test Labs at Celestica Newmarket and will supervise associated technician(s).
  • Design, develop, and implement new mechanical and thermal cycling lab test processes to support the understanding of the quality of customer products
  • Solve technical product, process, component, and related mechanical quality and reliability problems that affect the efficient operation and/or manufacture of electronic products.
  • Provide feedback to product designers, manufacturing and quality engineers and component suppliers on suitability of designs and processes for manufacturability to optimize mechanical vibration and drop shock & thermal cycling robustness
  • Develop novel test methods to investigate electronic product mechanical quality and reliability issues
  • Perform root cause failure analysis and provide corrective actions to prevent future mechanical product failures and improve mechanical-thermal stress reliability
  • Prepare formal reports identifying samples, explaining testing methods, documenting findings, and outlining conclusions of analyses
  • Design, document and execute test procedures, including qualitative and quantitative testing of complex mechanical samples
  • Validate, troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on mechanical vibration, shock and thermal cycling equipment, and modify test methods and procedures as required
  • Developing test plans, quotes and documenting test process and preparing reports summarizing findings to customers
  • Overall customer ownership and project management for all mechanical / thermal chamber investigations
  • Schedule and prioritize internal and external lab testing to meet customer demands
  • Daily operation, maintenance, calibration, programming and housekeeping of various lab test equipment which includes: Electro-Dynamic vibration shakers, Mechanical Drop Shock Tables, Accelerometers, Strain Gauges, thermocouples, and Environmental Thermal Test Chambers (recommend candidates research these topics prior to the interview)
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance activities of 3rd party contractors and equipment suppliers
  • Support audits, customer visits, tours and technical reviews.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
