About The Position

Dow is seeking a Mechanical Technologist to join our team in Freeport, TX. In this role, you will provide hands-on technical support and oversight to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of maintenance equipment across the facility. You will be a key member of the maintenance team, partnering with Operations to drive equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires advanced technical expertise across a range of processes, systems, and procedures, with the ability to perform complex work, apply analytical problem-solving methods, and provide subject matter guidance. The Mechanical Technologist may also serve as a working team lead, coordinating activities and supporting the development of others.

Requirements

  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment.
  • Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Troubleshooting – Able to effectively diagnose equipment failures and determine repair scope.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Complete repair and preventative maintenance task on a broad range of equipment.
  • Detail Oriented – Ensures that all aspects of the work process are complete from job initiation, execution, and close out.
  • Influential Leadership – Serves as a technical leader on the shop floor by guiding others, coordinating work activities, and influencing maintenance and operations decisions through expertise, credibility, and strong working relationships.
  • Proactive Problem Solving - Preventing issues before they arise by targeting the root causes of potential problems and planning preventive measures well in advance.
  • Effective Communication – Effectively communicate with different work groups and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • A two-year degree in a relevant technical discipline is an asset (Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and corrects equipment problems.
  • Calibrates and aligns equipment.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance spare parts.
  • Assists in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling maintenance through planner, work coordinator and operations input.
  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures and repairs all types of controls and instruments with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic variables.
  • Repairs, maintains and installs equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
