About The Position

SEH is currenting searching for a Mechanical Technician to join our talented Mechanical/Electrical team! We are seeking a Mechanical HVAC Engineering Technician to support the design and documentation of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. This role works closely with mechanical engineers and project managers to develop construction-ready drawings, perform system layouts, and coordinate with other disciplines using AutoCAD and Revit. The ideal candidate has strong technical drafting skills, a solid understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems, and experience producing coordinated mechanical construction documents. This opportunity can be Hybrid out of one of our Minnesota or Wisconsin offices or can be fully remote in Minnesota.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical, HVAC, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience supporting HVAC and plumbing design in an engineering or consulting environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (required)
  • Working knowledge of Revit for mechanical systems (required)
  • Fundamental understanding of HVAC systems (air distribution, hydronic systems, equipment layouts)
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience
  • Experience with commercial or institutional building projects
  • Familiarity with mechanical codes (IMC, IPC, local codes)
  • Revit MEP family creation or modification experience
  • Experience coordinating models using BIM workflows
  • Interest in career growth toward mechanical engineering or senior technical roles
  • Bluebeam or similar PDF markup tools (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare HVAC and plumbing design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit for all project phases (schematic through construction documents)
  • Assist mechanical engineers with system layouts, equipment selection support, and design development
  • Develop HVAC plans, piping layouts, schedules, details, and diagrams
  • Perform basic calculations (airflow, pipe sizing, equipment capacities) under engineer supervision
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines
  • Revise drawings based on redlines, internal reviews, and client or authority comments
  • Maintain CAD/Revit standards and project file organization
  • Support construction administration efforts including submittal and RFI review as needed
