About The Position

The Technician, position may be filled at the Associate Level or Level I depending on the skill set within the talent pool. In general, a Technician repairs systems and assist with equipment installation and maintenance across the Colonial system. A Technician is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of industrial, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems at Colonial Pipeline. Technicians read and interpret technical material (i.e. Colonial, vendor and contractor electrical and mechanical drawings, prints and manuals, R-O-W alignments sheets, etc.).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Driver's License to drive company and personal vehicles.
  • Ability to work all hours, including holidays, and/or weekends as required; subject to call-out and occasional overtime.
  • Ideally, 1+ years of industrial related experience in technical or operations (mechanical or electrical) related field experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of machines and tools, and their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Able to demonstrate critical thinking and decision making.

Nice To Haves

  • Apprenticeship completed and/or Associate or Technical degree in a related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
  • Ideally, 1+ years of industrial maintenance or Pipeline Operational experience.
  • Ideally, 3+ years of industrial field operations experience, with approximately 2+ years as a mechanical/ electrical technician.
  • Ideally, 1+ years of experience as a Pipeline Technician.
  • Completed Skill sets I and II of NexTech. Training, Operations fundamentals, and required Instructor led training as specified in the NexTech training program.
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training; Forklift training/licensing, any other State licenses.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate Technician works closely with a qualified technician to attain the necessary training.
  • Under supervision of a qualified trainer or qualified technician, the Associate Technician is responsible for acquiring the knowledge, skills and abilities to become eligible for the Technician I job classification.
  • Associate Technician participates in Colonial's NexGen Technician Training program and attends coordinated classes and workshops to enhance technical skills/knowledge.
  • Technician I provides oversight and direction of contractor personnel in facility maintenance and special projects.
  • Some requisition and budget management such as but not limited to; Orders parts and materials for routine maintenance and special projects.
  • Assist in or completes required documentation including Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) reporting, completion reports, work orders, invoices, etc.
  • Serve on District Emergency Response Team. May maintain emergency response equipment.
