About The Position

R. J. Corman is seeking Mechanical Team Members (QMI) to join their team in Williston, ND. This position involves working 12-hour shifts, as the operation is active 24/7, 365 days per year. The role requires performing and documenting railcar inspections and repairs in compliance with federal regulations, including frequent welding, cutting, and mechanical repairs. Team members are responsible for maintaining accurate records of work performed and material usage, ensuring all federally required paperwork is complete and correct, and completing repair jobs in a timely manner. The position also involves keeping vehicles and shops clean and safe. Candidates must undergo QMI training and be proficient in car repair, data entry, and material ordering. Qualification to move locomotives and freight cars may be required, with additional training provided. The role operates under direct supervision, with general direction and limited discretion, and requires a professional demeanor when interacting with supervisors, employees, contractors, and customers in a fast-paced railroad environment.

Requirements

A valid driver's license is required
Must have a background in welding and cutting
Must have good communication and people skills with demonstrated ability to develop team work and work with all levels of personnel in achieving our goals
Able to perform physical strenuous work
Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced RR environment
Requires efficient development and performance of processes
Requires ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment
High visibility position requires professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers

Railroad carman experience with extended haul inspections highly desirable

Responsibilities

Railcar inspections & repairs must be documented for verification and to ensure the work is being done correctly and in a timely manner
Complete railcar inspections, including extended haul inspections in compliance with 49 CFR Parts 215, 218, 224, 231, 232
Requires frequent welding, cutting, and mechanical type repairs
Maintain understanding of documenting work performed and recording material usage
All federally required paperwork for railcar repairs must be complete and correct
Ensure that repair jobs are completed in a timely manner
Ensure that vehicles and shops are kept clean & safe
Must undergo QMI training
Must be proficient in car repair, data entry, and material ordering
May require qualification to move locomotives and freight cars
Performs other duties as assigned by management
