About the position

The Museum of Science is seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Supervisor to oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the Museum's mechanical systems, ensuring the comfort and safety of all guests and staff. This role involves supervising personnel, managing work orders, and ensuring continuous operation of our physical plant systems across 750,000 square feet of museum property. The position requires leading a vital team, being part of a mission-driven organization, and collaborating with a diverse team to contribute to the Museum's long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and plan maintenance for all mechanical systems, ensuring around-the-clock operation and emergency coverage.
  • Actively monitor and troubleshoot system problems, coordinating with contractors and recommending upgrades to maintain top-tier performance.
  • Administer preventative maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and building codes.
  • Recruit, train, and lead a team of mechanical personnel, aligning hiring practices with the Museum's diversity goals.
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinate outside contractors, and negotiate contracts to ensure cost-effective, high-quality results.
  • Be available 24/7 to respond to emergencies, including power failures, building evacuations, and safety incidents.

Requirements

  • Strong expertise in HVAC, hands-on mechanical diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Experience with building management systems and technical diagrams.
  • Post-high school coursework, technical degree, or business certificate.
  • 10+ years of experience supervising HVAC and mechanical systems in an institutional or industrial setting.
  • 5+ years of experience supervising Computer based Building Automation Systems.
  • Proven ability to supervise personnel and manage building systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and life safety operations.
  • Journeyman Refrigeration License and EPA license.
