About The Position

The Mechanical Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for the daily oversight, direction, and development of the mechanical maintenance team to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role supervises employees and contractors while managing preventive and corrective maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, planning, and the execution of outages and capital projects. The Mechanical Supervisor will oversee work distribution, maintain departmental schedules, support procurement activities, and ensure all mechanical maintenance is completed in accordance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and equipment reliability goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical or power plant maintenance experience (including NBIC Boiler Code, ASME Power Piping, work planning, and cost/time estimating)
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience leading mechanical maintenance teams and managing outages
  • Experience using CMMS platforms such as PeopleSoft, Maximo, or Jaegger
  • Experience supporting procurement, purchasing processes, and materials requisitioning
  • A combination of technical training and/or relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and equipment knowledge
  • Proficiency in CMMS-based scheduling, planning, and work-order lifecycle management
  • Strong administrative, Excel, and data management skills
  • Ability to supervise and develop mechanically skilled trades personnel
  • Ability to coordinate priorities across departments
  • Strong conflict‑resolution and communication skills
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, sit, and work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Must be able to wear a full‑face respirator and all required PPE
  • Must meet vision requirements (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception)
  • Ability to work rotating or split shifts, nights, weekends, and extended hours during outages
  • Availability for call‑ins during off‑hours as needed

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily direction to mechanics and maintenance technicians, setting clear priorities and offering troubleshooting support.
  • Directly supervise, coach, evaluate, and train mechanical maintenance staff to ensure high competency, safe practices, and consistent performance.
  • Select, train, and develop new hires to maintain a capable, cross‑trained mechanical workforce.
  • Supervise contractor activity during routine work and outage execution to ensure safety, quality, and adherence to expectations.
  • Encourage employee involvement in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
  • Oversee mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and major equipment overhauls.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis on mechanical and system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay current on Boiler Condition Assessment Report recommendations and ensure follow‑up actions are completed.
  • Review monthly vibration analysis results and drive timely corrective mechanical work.
  • Support the execution of capital projects, system upgrades, and major mechanical repair activities.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage Major Outages, Minor/Cleaning Outages, Forced Outages, and other mechanical projects.
  • Review, update, and complete work orders in alignment with weekly and bi‑weekly maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits and enforce strict adherence to PPE and safety programs.
  • Generate and distribute maintenance schedules, updates, logs, and related documentation.
  • Utilize a CMMS—such as PeopleSoft, Maximo, Jaegger, or similar—to manage work orders, track KPIs, oversee backlog, and optimize PM/CM programs.
  • Maintain strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency with Excel, for planning and reporting.
  • Partner with Procurement and Warehouse teams to obtain outage materials, rental equipment, tools, and contractor services needed to support maintenance activities.
