Position Purpose: Performs repairs, changes, improvements, and conversions to car parts and assemblies such as underframe, trucks, insulation jackets, tanks and bodies of railroad cars.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as 10 instructions, FM instructions, work orders, and AAR Field
  • 3-5years mechanical experience required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two digit numbers.
  • Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results
  • Knowledgeable of AAR regulations and railcar repairs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer knowledge and strong communication skills -- experience.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely lift (vertically) up to 51 pounds, regularly, and safely lift up to 85 pounds, occasionally, from the ground surface.
  • Must be able to push/pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments.
  • Must be able to physically enter confined space and work in enclosed environments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares equipment and surfaces, dismantles and rebuilds, as required, repair car parts such as trucks, jackets and insulation, and platforms.
  • Jack car, remove/replace/disassemble trucks to repair or gain access to parts needing repairs.
  • Remove, replace, straighten, renew or repair various car parts such as couplers, gears, safety appliances, insulation, and running boards as required to achieve proper
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance on tools and equipment used.
  • Ability to follow company's and customers safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic computer knowledge and strong communication skills -- experience.
  • Communicate effectively and work in a team oriented environment.
  • Communicate with supervisor as needed.
  • Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
