About The Position

As we continue to expand and enhance our datacenter infrastructure, we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to play a vital role in providing energy efficient, and mechanically sound datacenter design solutions in service of our clients. As a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Data Centers, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical infrastructure designs in cooperation with our consultants based on the established basis of design and constructability of our HPC data centers. This role would support the construction and eventually the ongoing operation of our mission-critical data center facilities. Your role will encompass various aspects of mechanical systems, including central plant systems, advanced HPC cooling methods, support HVAC, and review of CFD analysis, to ensure the highest levels of reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing mechanical systems for data center facilities. 5 years
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC, datacenter cooling systems, and central utility plants.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • System Design: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of APLD and consultants to develop detailed designs for the data center's mechanical systems, including HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and automation considering industry best practices and energy efficiency.
  • Technical Specifications: Participate in the creation of comprehensive technical specifications and engineering drawings that clearly outline the mechanical system requirements for contractors and construction teams.
  • Compliance: Ensure all mechanical designs comply with local building codes, industry standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE guidelines and NFPA requirements.
  • Energy Efficiency: Incorporate energy-efficient technologies and practices into the design to minimize the environmental impact and operational costs of the data center.
  • Vendor Selection: Participate in the evaluation and selection of vendors and suppliers for mechanical equipment and components, considering quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with mechanical system designs and develop mitigation plans to ensure data center reliability and target uptime.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with the overall data center design.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of design changes, specifications, and engineering documents throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the construction and installation of mechanical systems to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.
