About The Position

The Experienced First Line Supervisor role in BNSF Railway's Mechanical Department is designed for professionals with a strong mechanical operations and leadership background. This position entails managing the daily activities of mechanical teams, focusing on the maintenance and operational efficiency of locomotives and freight cars. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire AND have a valid Driver's License or will have a valid Driver's License upon hire.
  • Does not require BNSF’s assistance, now or in the future, to obtain, maintain, or extend employment authorization.
  • Capable of working in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and can safely perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions or in a shop, terminal, or field environment.
  • Able and willing to relocate anywhere on the BNSF Railway operating system (western 28 states) upon hire, for the summer, and travel to other locations as required.
  • Have a high school degree or achieved a degree through a GED program.
  • Have at least three (3) years of military and/or professional work experience supervising five (5) or more employees.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the inspection, maintenance and repair of railcars and locomotives safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee mechanical shop employees in a union environment.
  • Assign and coordinate daily schedules for personnel.
  • Ensure labor and equipment is positioned to inspect, test and repair equipment to meet the needs of the daily plan.
  • Foster relationships with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Safeguard compliance with BNSF’s employment policies, safety rules, union agreements, and Association of American Railroads (AAR)/Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.
