The Pipe Fitter position involves working in shops, yards, buildings, and passenger coaches. The primary activities include ensuring compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Responsibilities include building, erecting, assembling, installing, dismantling, and maintaining parts made of various metals, including copper, brass, tin, zinc, and white/black metal of 10 gauge and lighter. This includes brazing, soldering, tinning, and leading. The role also requires bending, fitting, cutting, threading, brazing, connecting, and disconnecting air, water, gas, oil, and steam pipes, as well as operating pipe threading machines and performing oxy-propane and arc welding. Additional responsibilities include moving locomotives and miscellaneous activities as assigned by the manager.
