The Mechanical - Sheet Metal Worker position involves pipe fitting in various environments including shops, yards, buildings, and passenger coaches. The role requires compliance with railroad safety regulations and involves a variety of tasks related to the assembly and maintenance of metal parts, as well as operating machinery and performing welding tasks.

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Build, erect, assemble, install, dismantle, and maintain parts made of copper, brass, tin, zinc, white/black metal of 10 gauge and lighter, including brazing, soldering, tinning and leading
  • Bend, fit, cut, thread, braze, connect and disconnect air, water, gas, oil and steam pipes
  • Operate pipe threading machines
  • Perform oxy-propane and arc welding
  • Move locomotives
  • Carry out miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Driver's License
  • One year experience reading and interpreting technical drawings or schematics
  • One year experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • One year experience using oxy-propane torch
  • One year of pipefitting experience
  • Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Three years combined sheet metal, fabrication, and/or pipefitting experience
  • Paid training, including travel and lodging as required
  • Competitive pay rates with a structured apprenticeship program
