About The Position

The Sales Engineer reports to the VP of Pre-Construction and is responsible for conducting a wide range of sales activities in support of the Sales Department and the Capstone business plan. Types of HVAC selling include, but are not limited to, light-commercial new construction, light-construction change-outs, industrial processes, building automation and controls, and service agreements. The Sales Representative will work a standard schedule with some weekend and night work. Job-related contacts can occur with all demographic groups, with most of daily contacts being with potential or actual Capstone customers.

Requirements

  • Be a skilled and experienced salesperson with a proven record of direct sales experience, including a record as a strong sale closer.
  • An undergraduate degree in engineering or another technically related field.
  • Experience in engineering, sales-related marketing in the HVACR industry, or building service.
  • Possessing excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to sell to a wide range of customers, e.g., commercial, and industrial.
  • Physical ability to conduct sales workups on actual jobsites, including climbing ladders under adverse conditions.
  • Current TX driver's license; incumbent must be insurable.
  • Be a self-motivated, extrovert, tactful, organized, goals-oriented individual.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and Access, in the most current version).
  • Be capable of learning how to calculate cooling/heating load calculations and solve a wide range of energy usage related problems.

Responsibilities

  • Secure orders from existing customers by means of on-site calls, telephone contacts.
  • Secure orders from potential customers by means of on-site calls, telephone contacts.
  • Participate in project job walks and discussions with the customer regarding the project scope, specification requirements, timelines, goals, and other performance instructions.
  • Prepare an estimate package for work to be performed, from bids solicited from vendors and sub-contractors, that meet GP and net profit goals for each department.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with department heads post-sale.
  • Manage small projects including order entry, procurement of equipment, directing manpower, and providing quality.
  • Provide customers with a wide range of HVAC and energy usage.
  • Apply Building Science to HVAC solutions to help our customers get the best value.
  • Conduct post-sale follow-up with customers to ensure all sales agreements have been accomplished, and customers are satisfied with all aspects of the service.
  • Provide base level technical assistance when needed for customers.
  • Handle and resolve customer complaints regarding a product or service.
  • Maintain a working relationship with service and installation Departments to ensure familiarity with services and products offered, and roles.
  • Maintain relationships with product representatives and local suppliers to stay up to date on product lines, promotions, trends, and changes.
  • Maintain and improve his or her sales skills and HVACR knowledge through self-study, product seminars, corporate training, and self-improvement.
  • Maintain written and digital records of sales-related leads, contacts, referrals, suspense items, future opportunities, follow-ups, and key names.
  • Respond to written and telephone inquiries that are sales-related or could lead to a sales-related opportunity.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner to echo the vision, mission, and values of Capstone.
