About The Position

This position will interact with all employees including management, safety, human resources, quality, maintenance and corporate representatives, customers and vendors. The impact of this position on the business is very important as it ensures that daily safety, quality, production, environmental, and cost goals are achieved. The person in this position will have a high level of interaction with hourly employees throughout the daily schedule. The decisions made by the person filling this position are of a highly technical nature in the mid range of complexity and independent judgment as relates to railcar repair. This position’s primary functions are conducted in accordance with established policy and principles. This position has approximately 15-20 hourly employees reporting to it.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s or associate’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in fast-paced production environment with preferably 2-4 years mechanical railcar repair experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and supervises shift production in accordance with priority goals and availability of resources to ensure adequate and timely down stream flow to the finishing department.
  • Performs audits to assure a high quality repair per customer specification and GATX quality policy and procedures.
  • Communicates work area status/activities to the Production Manager(s).
  • Communicates with down stream departments to facilitate smooth car flow.
  • Uses technical experience, expertise and problem solving ability to achieve and maintain a quality repair.
  • Maintains an effective work force by training, counseling and motivating direct reports.
  • Ensure that all necessary administrative work is complete and accurate.
