The Mechanical QCX Superintendent is responsible for leading mechanical quality control and commissioning execution on a data center construction project. This role bridges construction and commissioning by ensuring mechanical systems are installed correctly, tested thoroughly, and turned over in a fully operational, code-compliant condition. The Mechanical QCX Superintendent provides day-to-day leadership of mechanical QCx activities in the field, coordinating closely with mechanical contractors, controls teams, commissioning authorities, and operations stakeholders. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined construction professional with hands-on trade management experience who is ready to step into a leadership role focused on quality, performance, and system readiness.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of construction experience managing mechanical trades, such as HVAC, piping, plumbing, or process mechanical
  • Data center or other mission critical industry is required
  • Hands-on experience supporting mechanical installation, testing, startup, or commissioning activities
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems commonly used in data centers or mission-critical facilities
  • Experience coordinating field activities between contractors, inspectors, and commissioning teams
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications, and installation standards
  • Familiarity with pressure testing, flushing, balancing, and functional testing processes
  • Ability to lead field teams, manage priorities, and drive issue resolution
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (highly desirable, not required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for mechanical quality control and commissioning (QCx) activities, ensuring mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with design intent, client requirements, and project standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee mechanical commissioning execution from construction completion through pre-functional checks, functional performance testing, and system turnover.
  • Lead and manage Mechanical QCx Engineers, Leads, and Inspectors, ensuring consistent application of QCx processes across all mechanical scopes.
  • Oversee QCx activities for: Process Mechanical & High-Purity Piping Systems Exhaust Systems, Scrubbers, and Abatement Equipment HVAC, Mechanical Utilities, and Plumbing Systems Mechanical Equipment Installation, Startup, and Alignment
  • Develop, review, and approve QCx plans, commissioning procedures, checklists, and test scripts for mechanical systems.
  • Ensure proper execution of field verification, walkdowns, pressure testing, flushing, leak testing, balancing, and functional testing.
  • Coordinate with construction, commissioning, controls, and operations teams to resolve installation and performance issues.
  • Validate system performance including flow, pressure, temperature, redundancy, alarms, interlocks, and fail-safe operation.
  • Support and lead Integrated System Testing (IST) where mechanical systems interface with controls, exhaust safety systems, and process tools.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications, including ASHRAE, ASME, SMACNA, SEMI, NFPA, and local AHJ requirements.
  • Track, manage, and drive closure of QCx issues, deficiencies, and punch list items, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate QCx documentation, including test results, redlines, as-built verification, and turnover packages.
  • Participate in startup readiness reviews, cutover planning, and operational handoff, ensuring systems are stable and operationally ready.
  • Serve as the primary mechanical QCx interface with the client, commissioning authority, and third-party reviewers.
  • Enforce EHS, LOTO, and safe commissioning practices throughout all mechanical QCx activities.
  • Monitor and report QCx performance metrics, schedule impacts, and risk mitigation strategies to project leadership.
  • Lead lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mechanical QCx execution on future projects.
