As a Mechanical Lead QCx Engineer with LotusWorks, you will lead all mechanical commissioning and quality verification activities throughout project lifecycle Levels 1 through 3 — from Factory Acceptance Testing to Pre-Functional Testing. You’ll work closely with vendors, design engineers, and construction partners to ensure all mechanical systems meet design intent, performance expectations, and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Systems Expertise – Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, and process cooling systems.
  • Commissioning Process Knowledge – Experienced in QCx Levels 1–3 including FAT, Pre-Functional, and Functional Performance Testing.
  • Technical Documentation – Skilled in reviewing design specifications, submittals, one-line drawings, and system schematics.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting – Ability to identify root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and ensure system optimization.
  • Project Coordination – Proficient in scheduling, prioritizing, and managing commissioning activities across multiple stakeholders.
  • Cross-Discipline Collaboration – Works effectively with Electrical, Controls, and Process Engineering teams to ensure system integration.
  • Quality & Compliance – Knowledge of relevant standards including OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA, and LEED requirements.
  • Analytical & Reporting Skills – Strong ability to document test data, analyze results, and produce detailed commissioning reports.
  • Software & Tools – Experience with CMMS platforms (Maximo preferred), commissioning management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Safety Leadership – Committed to enforcing site safety policies and ensuring all commissioning activities follow EHS protocols.
  • Vendor & Client Interface – Comfortable leading discussions, resolving conflicts, and representing project progress to key stakeholders.
  • Technical degree required; Associate or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (preferred).
  • 2+ years experience in a mechanical, quality, or commissioning environment required.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry or trade certifications (OSHA 30, LEED, QA/QC, or commissioning training) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and support the QCx process through Levels 1 – 3 of the project scope.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and documentation management.
  • Review design specifications, manufacturer submittals, and one-line drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Confirm that equipment and systems are installed per project design and local/national codes.
  • Record and track non-conformance items and punch-list resolutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain communication throughout the QCx process.
  • Maintain an understanding of LEED specifications and sustainability objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate all QCx activities for the Mechanical discipline.
  • Manage priorities and schedules to align with project milestones.
  • Participate in progress meetings to communicate equipment readiness and testing status.
  • Ensure system integration across Electrical, Controls, and Process disciplines.
  • Review design documents, commissioning plans, and mechanical equipment specifications.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules in coordination with the project timeline.
  • Interface with design engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Track commissioning progress and provide status reports.
  • Support Level 1 – 3 commissioning on systems including HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, cooling water, fire suppression, and hydraulic/pneumatic networks.
  • Verify system performance against design and operational criteria.
  • Participate in Functional Performance Testing (FPT) for equipment such as chillers, pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Support vendors and trade partners during FPT activities.
  • Record test data, deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, including test reports, turnover packages, and punch lists.
  • Identify and resolve system issues during startup and testing.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions with vendors and trade partners.
  • Support resolution of installation or performance deficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA, and project-specific standards.
  • Verify that installations meet project specifications and safety requirements.
  • Enforce safe work practices in accordance with the Project EHS Plan.
  • Confirm that systems remain de-energized until safety testing is completed and documented.
