Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) is one of Lockheed Martin’s best-in-class Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity and reliability. Controls Engineering is an organization within FBM that facilitates control of the missile through servo actuators, gas hydraulic systems and small rocket motors. We are a community of engineers looking for a dependable engineer to join our tight-knit group. The Mechanical Controls group is an organization within FBM that is responsible for the design and production support of the systems that control the missile both before and after boost. This position is for an Engineer in the Boost Control System (BCS) IPT that both collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills. In this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the BCS IPT with our Navy partner, LM leadership, and suppliers, with many opportunities for career development along the way. The BCS IPT is responsible for the development, manufacture, and management of the control systems used during the boost phase of the missiles flight. This role is for a Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) delegate for the Gas Hydraulic Assembly (GHA). In this role, you will have the opportunity to: manage hardware components, be empowered to develop technical solutions, and potentially be the technical lead of a component throughout different phases of the product life-cycle (qualification, production, service support, aging, etc.). The successful candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of mechanical design and any combination of exposure to: engineering project management, propulsion, rocketry, aerodynamics, mechanisms, or materials or fluids.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline - Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 1+ years' experience with complex mechanical design model/drawing interpretation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Any combination of exposure to: engineering project management, propulsion rocketry, aerodynamics, mechanisms, and/or fluids
  • Understanding of Engineering Lifecycle
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment

Nice To Haves

  • Missile/rocket and/or aerospace-related education or experience
  • Experience with CAD and hardware modeling tools (e.g. SolidWorks/CREO, Matlab)
  • Experience in gas/fluid dynamics or energetics/propellants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership and initiative
