About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Pensacola, FL, to lead mechanical design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects while supporting the delivery of larger, high-complexity work with senior staff. In this role, you’ll provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, with responsibilities spanning analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You’ll also work within the project’s monetary budget while training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
  • Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools per code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Partner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Support consulting project execution as part of a project team, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress (percent complete and fee expended)
  • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
  • Perform in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirements
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, and project managers) to deliver integrated solutions aligned to project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
