About The Position

RQ Construction is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer (MPE) to join our on-site team at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Saint Mary's, GA. This role is ideal for an experienced project engineer who wants to expand their leadership responsibilities and move along a clear career path toward Project Management. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be an integral part of the construction management team-supporting, coordinating, and tracking all phases of complex design-build projects. You will be responsible for ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project objectives, cost parameters, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction project engineering or related roles, preferably in mechanical trades.
  • Strong understanding of construction trade practices, especially mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, or plumbing).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); familiarity with BIM, Procore, or similar project management software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate all phases of construction projects from concept through completion alongside the Mechanical PM.
  • Track and manage project costs, change orders, and billing to ensure financial alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, QC, and Safety personnel.
  • Assist with submittals, RFIs, takeoffs, and as-built documentation.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, FRP, and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Support job costing efforts and verify subcontractor billings and progress reports.
  • Maintain organized and accurate project documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the project team, including clients, subcontractors, and field staff.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively contribute to project planning and scheduling.
