About the position

Eaton’s Power Reliability Division is currently seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – New Product Development to join our team. This position is based at our South Milwaukee, WI facility. Relocation assistance is offered. This high impact role is involved in the design and development of switchgear and switchgear sub-systems. In this role, creativity and innovation are focused on developing new electro-mechanical product solutions for application on electrical power systems. In this role, you will work directly with a broad set of technologies involving polymers, vacuum interrupters, electromagnetic actuators, linear drive mechanisms, castings, and metal fabrications. Assignments range in scope from high level system concepts to detailed sub-system development and analysis. This position is a key contributor to cross-functional project teams that push concepts through a formal project process. Primary duties include planning (work breakdown), risk analysis, product design, design analysis, prototyping, verification and reliability test planning and execution. With five Eaton facilities and more than 1600 employees located in Southeastern Wisconsin, Eaton’s local footprint enables our employees with state-of-the-art laboratories and access to manufacturing, all while providing ample opportunities for development and career growth within region.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex 3D models and drawings using CAD tools such as Inventor.
  • Analyze 'digital prototypes' using CAE tools such as FEA and Dynamic Simulation.
  • Perform design calculations developing Free Body Diagram, spreadsheet calculations, etc.
  • Work closely with suppliers to develop and prototype components.
  • Develop sub-system functional and reliability test plans and coordinate the execution of the tests using both internal and external lab resources.
  • Perform root cause analysis for the issues encountered during prototype & production testing and identify corrective – preventive actions.
  • Coordinate and execute sub-system level design reviews.
  • Develop work processes and durations for completing assigned project tasks with the ability to identify critical dependencies and risks.
  • Learn and master new design tools and processes, and then teach others within the engineering department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of design engineering experience.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience using CAE tools (CAD, 3D modeling, statistical analysis, electrical/mechanical analysis, simulation).
  • Experience with product development projects.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or product test environment.
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes or other equipment.
