  • Assist other technicians or engineers with design, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting test and assembly equipment based on engineering specifications.
  • Perform testing of product and qualification of fixtures for use in production.
  • Assist with prototype and low volume pre-production builds.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to create parts and assemble custom test and manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during the assembly process and modify designs to overcome.
  • Provide design feedback to engineers prior to the fabrication of custom equipment.
  • Validate and qualify proper mechanical operation of assembled equipment before delivery to test or manufacturing engineers.
  • Follow test instructions and perform product related reliability testing and provide written reports on findings.
  • Assist engineers with prototype builds by setting up production lines, assembling product, and providing feedback.
  • May also be responsible for ordering components, creating bills of materials, ordering materials and tooling, and keeping the fabrication areas clean and organized.
  • Associates degree or 3 years of experience in a technical field related to mechanical fabrication or assembly.
  • Minimum 3 years of additional experience in technician or related field of work.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform hands-on tasks such as part fabrication and assembly.
  • Perform product testing.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry, and mechanical theory.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Operate a computer and use word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Use hand tools, machine shop equipment, and basic test equipment.
  • Machining experience with a manual mill, manual lathe, drill press, and other basic shop equipment.
  • Experience with CNC operated machines such as mills or routers.
  • Direct experience with fabrication of plastic and metal parts.
  • Direct experience with building mechanical systems.
  • Ability to operate CAD software such as SolidWorks and Creo.
