About The Position

Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all of the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications. Located in South Gate, CA., Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full-service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services, our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services, and heat treat capability. Position Summary: With minimal supervision, the Mechanical Lab Technician leverages their technical and laboratory experience to setup and operate standard and custom test equipment to conduct specimen testing according to specifications, while meeting Safety, Quality, Productivity and other standards. This position is on the 2nd shift (3pm start time)

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
A technical degree or certification is highly preferred but not required.
1+ years of relevant work experience in a mechanical lab.
An effective technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently, yet interact closely with other departments, customers, and vendors.
Ability to analyze test data.
Ability and willingness to adapt and be flexible to an ever-changing growth environment.
High attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline.
Be willing to research, evaluate and train new process methods.
Proficient Windows/MS user.
Demonstrated ability to operate mechanical test equipment and environmental test chambers.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand industry standards and apply appropriate test methods accordingly.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization.
Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and respond to competing priority demands.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of PC-based statistical analysis software preferred.
Knowledge of contact physics preferred.
Ability to perform light assembly operations including hand soldering preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of failure analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

Comply with PCC Code of Conduct Requirements and all PCC Cardinal Rules (e.g., Quality and Safety).
Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
Interpret customer prints and specifications for testing procedures.
Select the proper fixturing and testing equipment for testing products.
Set up and operate standard and custom test equipment including microscopes, Instron type force equipment, vibration, mechanical shock, and other mechanical lab-related test equipment.
Conduct tests, analyzes data and documents results; participates in test readiness reviews.
Conduct product evaluation and performance analysis.
Establish performance and reliability of the products being tested.
Demonstrated ability to follow work procedures for every specimen tested; cannot deviate from work standards.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities such as cross-training and testing in other labs.
Good housekeeping of lab area and equipment, and always a safety-first attitude.
Troubleshoot and resolve laboratory and test-related problems. Escalate when needed.
Periodically check and evaluate in-process procedures.
