As a Machine Repair Journeyperson at General Motors, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing industrial machinery. This position requires a high level of independent judgment and problem-solving skills, as you will work under minimal supervision. You will be expected to handle multiple job assignments throughout your shift, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in your work. Your primary responsibilities will include following established safety procedures in accordance with OSHA standards and company protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, dismantling, repairing, and replacing mechanical and hydraulic components on various types of industrial machinery. This includes working on equipment such as motors, generators, air compressors, pumps, and CNC spindles. You will also be tasked with laying out, assembling, fabricating, and repairing piping systems, utilizing a variety of hand and power tools for tasks such as measuring, cutting, and installing pipes and valves. Reading and interpreting blueprints for mechanical operations and assembly of automation systems will be a key part of your job, as will operating mobile equipment like forklifts and cranes. Additionally, you will set up and operate CNC machine tools to shape parts to precise specifications, ensuring the quality of finished products by verifying dimensions and alignments using measuring instruments. This position may require you to work flexible hours, including day, afternoon, or night shifts, and you must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. The role may be filled by either a Journeyperson or a Journeyperson In Training, with compensation based on experience and qualifications.
