About The Position

The Mechanical Integrity position will support development and implementation of combustor system upgrades. This position is in a fast-paced, technical environment working on diverse projects across several different industrial gas turbine frames. This is a technical leadership position requiring functional authority in the structures and lifing discipline with advanced level of knowledge in at least one specialty area. Must lead and direct technical teams to support overall program goals as well as mentor junior engineers. Expected to work independently and take responsibility for all direct and indirect aspects of their work to set an example for the team in successfully meeting deliverables of the project

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Civil Engineering. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Ansys and Ansys workbench
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with structural analysis and life prediction
  • Minimum 2 years of gas turbine experience, Familiarity with E/F class IGT is a plus and preferably in combustion
  • Strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills are required
  • Experience with 3D CAD software – Creo, NX, Solidworks
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, general machining and fabrication techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Strong skills with MS Office programs. Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to perform hands-on fieldwork is strongly desired
  • Field work and travel may be required (up to 20%)
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills, including ability to motivate and influence others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely analytical solutions to verify mechanical configurations on combustion equipment. Work with design engineers to develop improvements to turbine components.
  • Understand finite element boundary conditioning on static, vibratory, and thermal analyses for both elastic and inelastic solutions
  • Ability to link thermal, mechanical and vibratory finite element solutions to produce life calculations (low cycle fatigue, thermal mechanical fatigue, high cycle fatigue).
  • Develop life algorithms for LCF, HCF, and TMF predictions on combustion system components.
  • Assist performance of high pressure rig tests and engine field validation of systems designed and developed at PSM. Support commercial installation and operation of systems developed.
  • Support the continued development and oversee the adherence to PSM design systems including job folders and documentation, technical reviews, drawings and engineering changes and field validation plans and verification.
  • Analyze components to ensure parts maintain appropriate stress levels, meets life requirements and design criteria.
  • Utilize appropriate design/analysis tools, such as ProEngineer, ANSYS, Microsoft Excel or similar.
  • Lead or support scheduling, project engineering and supplier issues and procurement efforts to ensure timely delivery of components to meet program and company objectives.
  • Project ownership and leadership of technical team to achieve success
  • Assess needs and identify critical path schedules for design, manufacturing and procurement activities as well as development of structures best practices into “rules and tools”
  • Create, lead and/or deliver presentations to internal and external clients.
