About The Position

Old Dominion Insulation is seeking a Mechanical Insulation Superintendent to coordinate operations and oversee multiple crews of insulation workers on commercial and industrial job sites from start to finish. They are responsible for ensuring insulation projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget, in accordance with drawings, specifications, and local codes. This role includes direct supervision of field crews, managing materials and equipment, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting company standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of supervisory experience in insulation, construction, or related trade.
  • High school diploma or GED required; advanced training preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of insulation techniques, materials, and safety practices.
  • Ability to effectively manage and lead crews.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specs.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • OSHA 30 Certification required.
  • Fall Protection Training required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical insulation systems including ductwork, mechanical piping and plumbing systems, materials, and associated installation methods.
  • Skilled communicator with crews, project managers, estimators, and clients.
  • Ability to set, monitor, and meet production goals.
  • Leads by example with a positive, safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and develop insulation labor teams.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills in the field.
  • Proactively manages project man-hours and productivity.
  • Skilled at identifying and managing change orders.
  • Professional and confident in client interactions.
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, squat, stretch, and climb ladders/scaffolds.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Able to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.) as required.
  • Able to work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, confined spaces, heights).
  • Able to travel daily to assigned job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee insulation crews, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and safety standards.
  • Organize and assign crew work methods, scheduling, and manpower.
  • Plan, coordinate, and track project milestones to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure crews have adequate manpower, insulation materials, and tools for each job.
  • Maintain and inventory insulation materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Identify and assign appropriate crews for each project based on scope.
  • Communicate schedules and job expectations clearly to crew members.
  • Ensure insulation work areas are kept safe, clean, and organized.
  • Accurately track crew time and submit weekly timesheets.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and serve as the company’s representative on-site.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to crew members in the field.
  • Lead daily huddles and safety meetings to identify potential risks and set productivity goals.
  • Perform quality control checks on insulation installations.
  • Coordinate project logistics including material deliveries, equipment use, and labor needs.
  • Monitor and track job costing, productivity, and forecasting.
  • Review work in progress daily and prepare look-ahead schedules.
  • Manage and communicate change orders.
  • Document and report project status, including progress, safety, and quality metrics.
  • Attend progress meetings and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Provide on-the-job training for new crew members.
  • Ensure insulation equipment is inspected and maintained in good condition.
  • Participate in pre-job walks and turnover meetings.
  • Support estimating and proposal efforts when required.
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards consistently.
  • Proactively communicate barriers to productivity, safety, or quality with management.
