About The Position

Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (M&IE) is the largest academic department on the MSU Bozeman campus. Undergrad and graduate enrollment currently totals approximately 1,475 students. It offers four undergraduate programs which include Mechanical Engineering (EMEC), Mechanical Engineering Technology (ETME), Industrial and Management Systems Engineering (EIND), and Financial Engineering (EFIN). The department also offers M.S. degrees in Industrial & Management Engineering (I&ME) and Mechanical Engineering, and the PhD in Engineering with options in EIND and EMEC. Also offered are four minors which include Aerospace, Mechatronics, Materials, and Financial Engineering, with more on the horizon. The department maintains a robust research component, with a growing number of graduate students.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in an engineering related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Progressive experience in welding, machining, and sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in equipment and material budgeting, and project cost summaries.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certificate or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience in industrial education through teaching machining, welding or related other fields.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support labs for academic courses in Norm Asbjornson Hall and Barnard Hall.
  • Coordinate with faculty instructors on lab content, preparation and execution.
  • Develop equipment and material budget requests.
  • Prepare project cost summaries, including labor, equipment and materials.
  • Familiarize and train students and student workers concerning lab safety, use of lab equipment and tools.
  • Perform routine inspections of lab equipment and implement repairs as required.
  • Prepare equipment for laboratory instructional use and work with multiple instructors to ensure that equipment is operational.
  • Machine, fabricate, and construct components to computer model or blueprint specifications.
  • Coordinate and manage manufacturing facilities upgrades.
  • Maintain the lab materials, chemicals and tool inventory and prepare inventory reports.
