About The Position

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Facilities team and has an opportunity for a Journeyman Mechanic. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex mechanical and plumbing systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and kitchen equipment. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts. What you’ll do Install, maintain, and repair mechanical and plumbing systems related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, and data center environmental controls. Trouble shoot and work with vendors to repair gas and steam for kitchen cooking equipment. Monitor building automation systems onsite and remotely, respond to emergencies and system failures promptly. Work in a weekly rotation of an on-call team for emergency responses to resolve issues outside of business hours. Maintain an ongoing inspection and preventative maintenance schedule for maintaining building equipment. Test water chemistry and apply corrective treatments to boilers, cooling towers, and chilled water systems. Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and external contractors to ensure timely and quality service. Assist others with maintenance projects and tasks assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on HVAC experience and/or training.
  • A current Journeyman Mechanical License from the City of Topeka or the ability to obtain a license within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical and plumbing building codes, with demonstrated experience in large building systems installation and maintenance.
  • Basic proficiency in PC and Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and to collaborate effectively with a team of technicians
  • Must be able to plan and prioritize tasks and maintain accountability to scheduled tasks
  • Work in environments with heat, steam, chemicals, and electrical controls while maintaining safety protocols.
  • Work in physically demanding conditions involving lifting, stooping, and working in confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in proper refrigerant handling practices is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration, ice machines, and kitchen equipment preferred
  • Experience with building automation controls systems such as Trane or Johnson Controls preferred
