The General Tank Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the tanks discipline. This includes overseeing tanks craft, subordinate supervisors, and ensuring that construction performance adheres to specifications, schedules, and budgets. The role involves providing leadership in Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), coordinating safety training, and enforcing safe work practices. The superintendent will monitor craft activities for compliance, manage labor costs and schedules, and interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for recruitment and training. Responsibilities also include reviewing craft time records, approving subcontractor mobilization, and ensuring that project policies and procedures are implemented effectively. The position requires close coordination with other discipline superintendents and client representatives to meet project objectives.

  • Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to the tank and storage department.
  • Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take corrective action.
  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices.
  • Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy.
  • Monitor craft activities for compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Manage cost, schedule, and optimization of craft labor.
  • Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training.
  • Review craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Review and approve subcontractor equipment/personnel mobilization.
  • Implement corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Coordinate with subordinate superintendents and General Foreman to hire tank craft labor.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure safety and quality compliance.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking applications and review weekly installed quantities.
  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables.
  • Assist in performing construction testing as required.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts on construction progress and expenditures.
  • Plan manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
  • Perform employee reviews and identify training opportunities.
  • Coordinate activities with other discipline superintendents or area superintendents.
  • 15 years of demonstrated experience in tank building with strong supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of construction methods for full containment LNG tank construction.
  • Understanding of specifications, vendor procedures, and codes including API-650, API-620, API-625, ASME Section VIII, AWWA, and FERC requirements.
  • Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, SAW.
  • Experience with large crawler cranes, tower cranes, SPMTs, and heavy lift programs.
  • Technical knowledge of tank building equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of requirements for cryogenic insulation.
  • Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out requirements.
  • Experience on LNG Tanks with concrete outer tank vapor and spill containment.
  • Experience on an LNG construction site along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience.
  • Experience managing technical services subcontracts.
  • Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generating station construction.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to work with multi-national employees and across different languages.
  • Ability to train less experienced team members and provide mentorship.
