About The Position

Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Mechanical Foreman within the Utilities division. This position will be responsible for all inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations performed on all steam and chilled water plant generating equipment, related peripheral equipment, utility tunnel distribution system, and other related equipment under plant control.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED AND:
  • 48 months experience in preventative maintenance, trouble-shooting, and mechanical repairs on steam generation equipment and large tonnage centralized chillers. 36 months of the 48 months supervisory experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety rules and regulations relating to applicable equipment.
  • Advanced mechanic aptitude
  • Ability to recognize and prevent conditions that causes fires or explosions.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervisors and lead employees
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to foster a calm and safe work environment especially during crisis or active emergency.
  • Mechanical Journeyman's License
  • State of Oklahoma, Class II High Pressure Boiler Operator License
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and directs all work, to include but not limited to inspections, alterations, maintenance and repair of the plant equipment and tunnel distribution system. Ensures work is scheduled in order of priority and completed in a timely manner.
  • Supervises, trains, and mentors team members within assigned functional area of responsibility
  • Be particularly able to recognize and prevent conditions that could lead to a fire or explosion.
  • Assists with cost estimates and material requisition of parts, supplies, and tools required for sustained plant operation.
  • Responsible for safety training and procedures in a plant as well as departmental operating procedures
  • Observes and practices all safety rules and regulations relating to the equipment under their control
  • Ensures plant operators and mechanics have access to second level advice and assistance in the event of a plant emergency.
  • Assists plant manager with inventory management, maintaining a safe work place, and stocking shop expendable, and PPE supplies.
  • May perform more complex mechanical repairs and trouble shoot equipment failures.
  • In the absence of the Plant Manager, assumes responsibility for total plant operations.
  • Keeps abreast of changing technology, procedures, and materials by reading trade journals, safety codes and manuals. Informs employees of pertinent and helpful information.
  • Performs related duties as assigned to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
