The Mechanical Engineering Technician will support the Component Development Area (CDA) within the Valves, Actuators, and Ducts division of the Propulsion Engineering department. This role involves working in a fabrication shop and testing laboratory focused on the development and testing of space flight components and systems. The technician will be responsible for fabricating various mechanical systems, operating complex mechanical systems, and collaborating with engineering personnel to ensure the successful execution of projects.

  • Fabricate tubing, fixtures, pneumatic panels, hydraulic assemblies, and various mechanical systems.
  • Operate and maintain complex mechanical systems utilized in testing of space flight components.
  • Work directly with engineering personnel and/or higher-level technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and systems.
  • Safely operate mills, tube flaring equipment, saws, plate shears, grinders, and presses.
  • Weld using various methodologies to assemble frames, test fixtures, and support assemblies for component testing.
  • Utilize detailed test procedures for safe operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogen, and high-pressure gas systems.
  • Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for buildup and testing of flight type hardware and test components.
  • Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical components.
  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent with 6 years relevant experience, or a technical degree with 2 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with design engineers, test engineers, and other technicians.
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical blueprints and schematics for pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions including established procedures for construction of systems.
  • Proficient operational experience in standard and complex mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Safety-conscious mindset.
  • Excellent organizational and customer relationship skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
