The Mechanical Engineering Summer Intern position at Amentum Advanced Solutions, Inc. offers an opportunity for students majoring in mechanical engineering to gain hands-on experience in engineering design for the automotive and aerospace industries. The internship will take place in Tullahoma, Tennessee, under the supervision of experienced engineers, and will involve working on project teams, attending planned activities, and making presentations at the end of the assignment.

  • Perform a variety of routine engineering tasks under the direction of experienced engineers.
  • Perform limited portions of larger, more complex engineering tasks under the direction of an experienced engineer.
  • Prepare computations, specifications, and reports of limited scope and complexity.
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems to meet project-specific and code requirements.
  • Coordinate the work of drafters in the development of 3D models and 2D drawing packages.
  • Review subcontractor submittals and shop drawings and provide limited support during construction at project sites.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients and other disciplines, including design, presentations, design reviews, and training.
  • Assist with project planning, budgeting, and cost estimating.
  • Degree Program: BSME or MSME
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher
  • Current status: Rising Sophomore or above
  • Area of Study: Mechanical and/or Aerospace engineering
  • Coursework: Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-oriented
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Willing to take initiative and work with minimum supervision
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.5 or higher
  • Coursework: Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Machine Design
  • Experience: 3D CAD, Finite Element Analysis
  • Past internship experience is a plus
  • Involvement in multiple extra-curricular activities, preferably on an engineering competition team
  • Interest in specializing in mechanical engineering upon graduation
  • Hands-on experience in engineering design
