The purpose of this role is to apply administrative, technical, and managerial techniques to assigned mechanical design projects to ensure their successful and timely completion within the allocated budget.

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution.
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Actively market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
  • Perform project development for complex projects, including finalizing scope of projects, preparing bid summaries, preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Prepare and direct preparation of designs, specification, plans, estimates and reports for projects.
  • Review job cost sheets and prepare monthly billings.
  • Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and management of work-in-process, billings, and outstanding accounts receivable collection efforts.
  • Maintain healthy client relationships and possess solid operational insight for driving projects and executing deliverables.
  • Maintain close relationships with clients to resolve all project questions including technical requirements, completion requirements and billing inquiries.
  • Assist with marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
  • Assist team leader in securing repeat business from existing clients and identifying new clients.
  • Liaise with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on projects.
  • Review project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
  • Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design problems including field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, detailed review of design computations done by others and general coordination of design aspects.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
  • Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Define and determine project specifications and budget construction cost estimating.
  • Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
  • If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
  • Work within established project budgets.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Eight or more (8+) years of industry-related experience, in design of commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, industrial and similar projects.
  • Minimum of three (3) years assistant project management experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, TraneTrace, and/or eQuest modeling software.
  • EIT and LEED accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of business and financial principles in a consulting business, as well as municipal codes and regulations.
  • A proven track record of innovation, leadership, and creativity.
  • Salary range $125,000 - $140,000
