About The Position

The Mechanical Plant Design team (TPM) is part of engineering at HVDC, with the mechanical responsibilities for our green field HVDC Projects on a global scale. We are currently around 210 employees operating from 5 countries. We engineer the mechanical systems of HVDC converter stations, defining how high-voltage equipment is integrated into the overall plant design. From drawings to installation support and final documentation, we bring mechanical systems to life - driving the green energy transition in close collaboration with our Plants Civil Engineering , Plants Electrical Engineering and Plants Project Management offices. We are now looking for a manager for North America team! In this role you will be working in a global and diverse team together with managers from India, Canada, and Sweden. You will have the personnel responsibility for a team of around 15 people reporting directly to you. You will be tasked with ensuring that engineering teams are adequately resourced, developed and equipped to meet business needs. You will be responsible for a number of projects, ensuring we meet project deliverables and following Hitachi guiding principles. “The Plants Mechanical team, globally, values an open climate where technology and people are at focus. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical) or other relevant discipline
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity and the ability to lead your diverse team
  • 3+ years of experience in design-for-installation, construction interfaces, and the lifecycle of mechanical engineering.
  • Capability to balance technical decision-making and business priorities, ensuring design solutions align with project schedules, costs, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • With your previous experiences as a people manager, ideally in a dynamic and global organization you feel comfortable with building strong relationships with employees and management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all employee related activities such as recruitment, onboarding, creating opportunities for training & development, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Together with our management team: address escalated issues, troubleshoot challenges, and continuously monitoring our projects
  • Drive quality and productivity improvements in projects through target setting, monitoring and benchmarking
  • Ensure, together with your team, compliance with global and local standards, rules, tools, policies, and processes related to operations/project execution and share Project best practices and lessons learned across the organization
  • Providing insight and managing priorities for the team while ensuring activities’ performance and quality goals are met during all project phases
