About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering department at San José State University (SJSU) is home to approximately 900 undergraduate and graduate students, dedicated faculty members, and qualified part-time instructors from Silicon Valley industry. The program has three main areas of focus: design, mechatronics, and thermal-fluid sciences. The curriculum is hands-on, incorporating laboratory experiences that allow students to apply classroom theory in practical settings. Faculty and students engage in award-winning design projects and research, contributing to advancements in mechanical engineering. Lecturers are expected to teach effectively, maintain office hours, and cooperate with the department in the peer-review process. They will also organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure that all classes are conducted as scheduled throughout the semester.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or a bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of significant professional experience.
• Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline.
• Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
• Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses effectively and maintain appropriate office hours.
• Cooperate with the department in the peer-review process.
• Assist in the development of courses, including content and textbook adoption.
• Organize classes within the Canvas Learning Management System.
• Ensure all classes are offered and met as scheduled throughout the semester.
