We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.    Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer Lead – Data Center serves as the main technical authority and discipline lead for all mechanical engineering matters across IREN’s portfolio of data centre projects.  This role provides strategic oversight, governance, and leadership for mechanical system design, air and liquid cooling infrastructure, equipment integration, and operational support across capital projects and manufacturing initiatives. The Lead ensures technical excellence, standardization, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and reliable mechanical systems performance across all regions.  We have grown substantially since 2019, from our inception in Australia to now having several facilities across North America and being listed on NASDAQ… and we are just getting started! Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’spreferred).
  • P.Eng. registration in Texas (registration in Oklahoma would be an asset).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical water conveyance and cooling systems for industrial, mission critical and hyperscale data center environments
  • Demonstrated experience acting as mechanical discipline lead or senior technical authority on complex projects.
  • Strong expertise in equipment validation, protection systems, and power distribution products.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards, including ASHRAE, IMC, IBC, NFPA
  • Ability to lead technical risk assessments and provide executive-level recommendations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with data center clients or mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the mechanical engineering discipline lead and technical authority for mechanical systems and cooling equipment, and their integration across all projects
  • Manage directly or functionally a team of senior, intermediate and junior mechanical engineers
  • Ensure Mechanical disciplineis coordinated appropriatelywith other disciplines like Civil, Architectural, Structural, Electrical and Piping.
  • Establish and maintain mechanical engineering standards, design criteria, and technical specifications to ensure consistency, safety, and reliability across products and installations.
  • Provide final technical review and approval ofmechanical designs, calculations, and deliverables prepared internally or by external consultants and vendors.
  • Oversee the design and validation of mechanicalsystems for custom-manufactured equipment including central cooling plants, fire protection, site water distribution, re-fuelling facilities, etc
  • Lead technical reviews, constructability assessments, and risk evaluations formechanicalsystems prior to release for production or installation.
  • Serve as the primary mechanical interface between engineering, manufacturing, QA/QC, project management, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership during customer interactions, supporting complex discussions related to mechanical systems design, performance, and compliance.
  • Ensure technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and test reports meet internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify technical risks related to mechanical systems and provide mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
  • Mentor andprovidetechnical guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional team members.
  • Monitor industry trends, evolving codes, and regulatory changes in the data center and mechanical manufacturing sectors, ensuring proactive integration into company standards.
