Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Accepting applications for Sophomores and Juniors, as well as Seniors that plan to attend graduate school and current graduate students.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Experience with at least one 3D solid modeling package is preferred.
  • Experience with at least one technical programming language (MATLAB, Python, etc) is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in many aspects of the design, assembly, testing, and analysis of precision positioning systems under the guidance of an upper-level engineer.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design, drawing, and documentation of parts and assemblies to support the production of precision motion systems.
  • Characterize error motions in positioning systems using laser interferometers, capacitance probes, autocollimators, indicators, digital levels, accelerometers, and other metrology equipment.
  • Use frequency response methods and vibration test equipment to characterize dynamic performance and stability margins of closed loop servomechanisms.
  • Work closely with the engineering and production teams to identify and correct problematic steps in the manufacturing process.
  • Collect, analyze, and present data using a variety of software tools for both formal presentations and informal group meetings.
  • Practice project management techniques to clearly identify a problem statement, track progress towards the objectives, and report on the closing results.
