The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Mechanical Engineering Intern within the Drinking Water Operations South Division, located in Valhalla, New York. Under direct supervision, of the Engineering Supervisor, the Mechanical Engineer will provide vital support for the mechanical engineering portions or aspects of the operation and maintenance of facilities, and various equipment under the directorate. They will, perform electrical engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility. Specific duties include: - Being part of a small unit or group engaged in the performance of design, construction supervision, service contract supervision, inspection, testing, or computer aided design drawing. - Engaging in research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering functions or operational activities of the division. - Engaging in the review and preparation of regulatory treatment reports and quality assurance checks of treatment plant data. - Preparing designs, plans, contract and work drawings, service contract specifications, service contract scopes of work, estimates of quantities, contract payment requisitions, and related contract correspondence. - Participating in or supervising the inspection operations of the installation, servicing, and maintenance of electrically related materials and equipment by service contractors or in-house forces. - Participating in or supervising the inspection of premises and the construction, demolition or alteration of structures in connection with the issuance of certificates of occupancy or other requisite or pertinent permits and compliance with the provisions of law, rule and regulation. - Participating in or supervising the maintenance and development of equipment and facility assets in the division’s computerized maintenance and management system.
