Position Summary In this role, you’ll work with our Sensors new product development engineering group to apply what you’ve learned in school and participate in Banner’s continued growth in the industrial automation market by developing sensors products. This position reports to the Engineering Manager II Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation for the summer internship program.

Requirements

  • Currently attending a credited Institution working on a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience using solid modeling tools (Solidworks, Creo, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced design/manufacturing techniques
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (i.e., creating graphs and charts, using formulas, creating V-look ups, and filtering information)
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while balancing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Experience in product design for industrial applications
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and statistical analysis
  • Experience with assembly techniques including ultrasonic welding, insert molding, chip on board (COB), surface mount technology (SMT) and epoxy encapsulation

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts, then design and document components and assemblies following departmental processes
  • Design and acquire prototype parts for internal evaluation
  • Design, source and build fixtures to aid in product development and technology research
  • Translate product specifications and requirements into effective product designs
  • Evaluate designs through physical and virtual product testing including performing stress, thermal, and tolerance analyses
  • Implement efficient and reliable manufacturing processes that allow for short lead times
  • Assist in the development and execution of product test plans
  • Performing qualification tests to ensure specification conformance
  • Resolving part and process issues by working with suppliers, manufacturing, and production engineering groups
  • Integrate design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) processes to reduce product cost
  • Analyze or work with global suppliers to qualify part designs for manufacturability by injection molding, extrusion, die casting and machining
  • Manage product documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), design verification reports, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and process and design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs)
  • Adhere to compliance regulations established by various agencies (CE, UL, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned
