About The Position

The Research and Technology (R&T) Department at Albany Engineered Composites is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Intern. The ideal candidate will have completed three years towards a bachelor's degree with a 3.5 GPA and has strong programming skills to perform data analysis and finite element analysis simulations. The candidate will work closely with engineers and researchers and will participate in ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • Completed at least three years toward a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.0 (3.5 preferred). Applicants working towards a degree in Aerospace, Civil, or Physics will be considered as well.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft software (MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Python programming for data analysis and scripting.
  • Experience with FEA tools, particularly Abaqus, is preferred.
  • Capability to understand and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD software a plus (SolidWorks, AutoCad, etc.).
  • Team and people skills that are required to ensure efficient execution of tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to present technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret experimental data related to composite materials to determine material properties and understand composite performance.
  • Develop and optimize Python scripts to automate data processing tasks, improving efficiency and reducing manual work.
  • Perform simulations using FEA software to evaluate mechanical properties and performance of composite materials under various loading conditions.
  • Document and present findings, providing clear and concise reports that communicate analysis results to the R&T team.
  • Work closely with engineers and researchers to support ongoing R&T projects, contributing to the development of 3D woven composite material technologies.
