About The Position

We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer - Process Piping Intern to join our dynamic team in our Melbourne office Summer 2026. As a Process Piping Intern, you will assist in the design and analysis of piping systems for a variety of high-tech facilities, including launch sites, test stands, manufacturing, and processing plants. You’ll work under the guidance of experienced engineers to learn how to translate owner requirements into design solutions and communicate your work through drawings, calculations, and technical documentation. You’ll collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines, gaining exposure to real-world design processes, codes, and software tools. This internship is a hands-on opportunity to develop technical skills and contribute meaningfully to exciting aerospace and industrial projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Interest in fluid systems, piping design, or aerospace/manufacturing environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science preferred.
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other 3D modeling software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in the design and layout of process piping systems for liquids and gases.
  • Perform basic calculations to support component sizing and equipment selection (pumps, valves, regulators, etc.).
  • Support 3D modeling and drafting efforts in Autodesk Revit and/or Inventor.
  • Help prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and learn how engineering interfaces with construction and client needs.
  • Research relevant codes and standards (such as ASME B31.3 and ASME BPVC) under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Learn to use analysis and modeling software such as AFT Arrow, AFT Fathom, and Caesar II.
  • Assist with site visit preparation, field data collection, and documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and innovation.
